A Message from the Founding President of the Metabolomics Society

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Members of the Metabolomics Society:

At the dawn of 2009, allow me to wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy New Year, hoping 2009 will bring us all prosperity and many successes, and bring our Metabolomics Society to new heights through our collective effort to enable the achievement of major milestones in this growing field.

Over the last four years you all played a key role in building very strong foundations for our Metabolomics Society. With your help we put the Society on the map nationally and internationally and made it the trusted voice for our community and for many who are tracking the field of Metabolomics. With four very successful scientific annual meetings and many workshops we created opportunities for collaboration and association among researchers in metabolomics; we fostered connections between academia, government, and industry, we provided opportunities for presentation of research achievements, and established a journal to promote the publication of meritorious research in the field. We remained true to the vision we established in 2004 and we built a vibrant research community. I thank each one of you, and thank the board members who worked hard and closely with me to build the foundations on your behalf. Special thanks to board members who also served as officers or members of the executive committee and these include Drs. Bruce Kristal, George Harrigan, Lioyd Sumner and Roy Goodacre.

Moving ahead and with the addition of four new board members that you elected (Drs. Marta Cascante, Matej Oresic, Robert Hall, Mark Viant) we are ready for building a new phase of growth in the life of our Society. The new members of the board and the new members of the board have elected a new set of officers who will serve for two years. The composition of the newly elected Board of Directors is as follow:

  • Thomas Hankemeier — Board Member
  • Masaru Tomita — Board Member
  • Marta Cascante — Board Member

With this superb group of scientists and with your help I have no doubt that our society will continue to grow and will continue to position the field of metabolomics at a national and international level. We look forward over the coming two years to bring the plant and other metabolomics researchers to partner in our meetings and effort where this society becomes the voice of all researchers in the field

It was my distinctive pleasure and honor to serve you and to build the first building blocks of our society and to get to know and work with so many of you.
